Hey guys,
I haven’t posted in a while. And a huge reason for that was because school started revving up and I had to focus on what was most important (aka classes). For those of you who do not know, I’m a premed in my last year of college and applying this coming cycle. Another reason why I was not posting was because there was an immense pressure in my mind to post something incredible. Something polished and cleaned up to the tee. In fact, I have a draft of a Self Care post that I spent hours writing and organizing….but did not end up finishing. So now, I’m just letting go of that perfectionism, and going old-school blogger style.
The point of this blog– the vision that I have for it– is to show the power of art… especially in the field of medicine where students tend to be more boxed in, and expected to follow rules, suppress creativity. And I myself have been on this path to medicine, wondering if my love for creativity would hinder my love for medicine. In actuality, the skill of creativity can be applicable everywhere. The love of creating art can be invaluable to a profession in medicine. I’ve noticed this is especially true when you’re applying to medical school. Being robotic and a good test-taker can help you obtain good test scores. But ultimately, during the application process, you need to be a fluid writer. You need to be thoughtful enough to really know why you want to be a doctor, and then express it in an aesthetically pleasing way. You have to captivate your audience through your writing. If that isn’t an art form in itself, I don’t know what is.
So to all those artsy folks also interested in medicine, do not feel alone. Your talents will shine through. Medicine needs more people like you. Trust me 🙂
On the vein of starting up this blog again… I’m making no public promises to be consistent because I hate making empty promises. But what I will do in my posts is attempt to be more open and vulnerable. I don’t want to have a super polished front. I want to give you guys an open and honest glimpse of this journey. Of my journey, and of what the journey may be like for you. And I want to begin showing you guys my art, and share a project idea that I have which relates art with medicine. So to me, the first step is being real with you. Really making this space a place for genuine conversation and connection for like-minded individuals.
I’m super excited for this space to grow, and to get to know all of you guys more in the future.
I loved your post! I’m going through the same stuff but with applying to Law School instead.
